Private Message to Aurora Sinistra

Professor,

Seeing your notice yesterday reminded me that I had not previously answered your inquiry (a fact Narcissa had pointed out some time ago but which of necessity kept shifting lower in priority than one would like to admit).

Unfortunately, one reason for this negligence stems from the simple truth that I have little advice to offer. Our Lord's wishes regarding His son's activities in the coming summer holiday remain ... unexpressed. Past experience has indicated that He does often look to the summer months to turn His attention more fully onto areas of Harry's education which Hogwarts cannot fully encompass. However, that said, He has often spoken of the importance of allowing Harry to make his own choices and seek his own way in the world.

As for my own son, he may do as he likes. His mother and I do of course anticipate that he shall shoulder the responsibilities of Prefect if his professors see fit to award the rank; naturally his marks surely show sufficient merit on that score. Admittedly he has not maintained a perfect record but in my own experience, the Prefect who has not earned an honest detention or two often is the less understanding and approachable for his lack of adventure. At any rate, if he puts his interest to the YPL then I have every expectation he should succeed in the duties assigned to him there as well and for similar reasons. Naturally, however, should it fall that he takes on both offices and find the obligations present him with too great a conflict, we should advise him to set aside his commitment to the House Quidditch side or the YPL before allowing his Prefecture to suffer. On the other hand, if you judge that another student may derive greater benefit, am confident he should soon recover from the disappointment.

Either way, Narcissa and I trust your capable management of the candidates and rest assured, shall support whatever decisions the committee make on either account.

Again, forgive my delay in answering. Hoping you find this remotely helpful, I remain,

Yours sincerely,

Lucius S. Malfoy, &c.
