He and Stint had some business with one another. Did I tell you about the time--earlier this summer--that I interrupted them in a corridor at St Mungo's. Quite innocently, for my part, but they behaved as though I'd been spying on them.

I suppose it's not surprising if he's investigating Stint's death. Though I could wish someone less partial were running things. Anyone else, in fact.

I might as well tell you, though I'm sure they'd take a dim view of my consulting with anyone else about it: I've been called in to answer questions at MLE tomorrow. I suppose it will be Fulton, then.

But you had the feeling that the woman, Laverty, was looking into his conduct? That's what you meant about Chiron--an internal affairs investigation?

We can only hope.

It could as easily have been a staged routine, you know: one of them jostles you with rough questions, and then the next comes and is understanding and patient and hopes you'll pour your real secrets in her sympathetic ear.

I do wish we were back at Hogwarts and safely done with all this bother.
